Pieces of advice and projection of insecurities.

I am writing to you seated on my balcony, enjoying the fast dwindling Kigali sun. I am reflecting on the issue of people projecting their insecurities on others as I sip my blackcurrant tea.A prominent story that comes to mind was a senior friend who once told me that the University of Ibadan Admission is not for me because he attempted it twice and was not admitted. He told me never to try again because if he did not make the cut-off mark, someone like me would never come close to the lowest range of the cut-off. I eventually went to the same university. What was my offence?. Attempting to do the same things he failed at, and rather than wishing me well, he concluded that no one would ever make it because he did not cut off the mark.We come across this kind of situation every day. While you cannot stop people from projecting their insecurities on you, you can stand your ground and follow your heart and conviction. You may not be able to prevent people from advising you based on their own experience. Still, you can decipher if the advice comes from genuine care or projection of insecurities.Today, follow your convictions and sift advice meant for you and the ones you should shun. Projection of insecurity is often embedded in good intentions but could be subtly dangerous. May you follow your heart and achieve an immense feat this week.Have a great oneOluwaseun David ADEPOJUJoin my NewsletterYou can also download my book, "Understanding to the simple" for free
